For previous residence in Thailand This notice explains what you must do to obtain a Penal Certificate or Police Clearance for you previous residence in Thailand. This clearance is required in connection with your application to remain in Australia.Before you apply for your clearance please read this notice carefully and then follow the instructions set out below. The authorities in Thailand require a full set of your fingerprints, certain documents and payment of a fee before they issue a certificate. To arrange this you and each person included in your application must first go to the police station nearest to your present place of residence in Australia with the passport of each applicant who requires a clearance (for identification purposes only - it will be returned to you). The following documents (in a large, unsealed envelope) are required to be forwarded by mail or submitted by a representative to: Commander of the Special Branch Royal Thai Police Headquarters

Letter of request from applicant outlining periods of residence in Thailand (including all addresses) |

Two full sets of fingerprints from local police in Australia or country of residence. The NSW Police will take and certify the fingerprints of each application and will sent them together with the sealed, stamped and addressed envelope you have provided. (Please note that a fee will be charged for this service by the NSW Police) |

One photo-copy of passport or travel document |

One photo-copy of Thai Identity card - only Thai nationals |

One photo-copy of Thai Household Registration Book – only Thai nationals and long term permanent residents |
Processing generally takes about 15 working days, plus additional time for return post.
The result can either be collected by a representative or if you wish the Thai authorities to send the result back directly to you, then you would need to include a stamped (approx. 80 Baht Thai stamp) self-addressed envelope.
If you are unable to obtain Thai postage stamps, you can enclose three postage coupons with the request for penal check. Postage coupons can be purchased at any post office (Australia Post). A coupon costs about 19 Baht each if you purchase in Thailand or equivalent currency in your country of residence.
